Pre-Instruction Vessel
This pre-instruction vessel is made out of the medium, clay. It is in the shape of a small bowl and a diagonal line going up and then down, is carved across the side. The surface is smooth and the top edge of it is the same width around. Both of the elements line and space are used, which is shown by the simple pattern on the surface. The principles pattern and balance are also used, shown by the pattern made by the lines and the visual balance that is made by the round and even sides. During the process of making this, one thing I struggled with was making the top perfectly flat, because that was my goal. I used a couple tools to help me with this. I do like this sculpture because it is simple. However a more interesting design could have made it better.

This series of ceramic vessels are related by their glaze color of a blend of blue and purple, and but they differ in the form and general shape of each one. One is the shape of a small bowl, one a small cylinder, and one a small vase going slightly in at the neck. Elements of art and design used include color and value, shown by the different hues of purple, blue, and green. Principles of art and design used include both unity and variety. Unity is shown by the glaze and variety is shown by the different forms. The function of these pieces will be to hold various objects. They could hold bracelets, rubber bands, or other things. I like these pieces of art because the texture of the surface is smooth and even. The color is also well blended.
Platter Set
These platters are very unique in the images that are carved into the surfaces. An abstract face is shown on each one. The elements used include shape and line both shown by different carvings filled in with glaze. The principles used include balance and variety shown by the use of where the lines are placed. The purpose of these platters could be decorational or functional, holding something. It was made, used Picasso's paintings as inspiration. I do not like these platters because of how the glaze colors ended up looking like. They were darker and not as vibrant than I had expected.
Final Choice Project- Social Issue
This sculpture is versatile in the materials used. There is the female symbol made of wire that is sitting on a wood base, there is pink string that is wrapped around the wire figure, and there is a flower made out of newspaper that is reseting on the base. The form of both the figure and the flower, create contrast. The wire figure is more rough around the edges and the flower is more delicate with soft looking petals. The space around the wire and in the circle, draws your eye to different places and allows you to look through the sculpture. The social issue that this artwork was based upon is the idea of feminism. The wire figure is formed to replicate the symbol representing females. The pink string adds to the stereotype of the color pink being associated with females. The flower is also a way of adding to the idea that women may not be as strong as men and are and that they are more "delicate". I like this piece because of the way the flower turned out looking. I also like the look of the different materials.
